The Power of Every Moment: How Decisions, Action and Inaction Shape Our Lives

As a life coach in NY, I often remind clients that the “big change” they’re waiting for doesn’t usually come from one dramatic moment. Transformation happens in the small, daily choices—your moment-to-moment decisions. Every choice you make or avoid making, creates ripples that influence your future and impact the people around you.

 

The Cost of Not Taking Action

Think about a time you had a great idea but didn’t act on it. Maybe you wanted to start a business, write a book, or even just reach out to someone you cared about. By putting it off, what happened? Nothing changed—and that’s the point. Not taking action is still a decision.

I once worked with a client who dreamed of changing careers but put it off for years because fear kept whispering, “What if you fail?” She stayed in a job that drained her and the frustration spilled into her home life. Her kids noticed, her partner noticed and eventually, she noticed the toll indecision had taken on her confidence and joy. That’s the hidden cost of inaction: it’s not neutral—it chips away at your life, day by day.

 

The Power of Taking Action

On the flip side, even the smallest step forward creates momentum.

That same client eventually decided to sign up for a single class in her new field. That one action lifted her energy and gave her courage. It set off a chain reaction: new connections, new opportunities, a résumé refresh and ultimately, a fulfilling new career.

This is what taking action does. It doesn’t just move you forward in your goals—it reshapes your identity. Each choice becomes proof: “I am someone who takes charge of my life. I am someone who follows through.”

 

My Own Story: Choosing Action Over Inaction

I’ve lived this truth myself. For many years, I worked as a dentist in my NYC dental practice. Dentistry was stable and respected and I really liked my patients but deep inside, I felt called to do something more aligned with personal growth and transformation. It took me years. I had to make a living and help support my family. Eventually, instead of ignoring that voice, I made the decision to take one small step: I enrolled in coaching training and later on, for hypnotherapy training while still running my dental practice and raising my son.

Those classes changed everything. They ignited a passion I could no longer ignore. So, when I eventually retired from dentistry, I decided to build a new practice and business as a Life & Mindset Coach, Hypnotherapist, and Speaker. It wasn’t one big leap—it was a series of small, deliberate actions. One training led to another. One client led to another. Each step built momentum. And the steps and the learning never end………..

That same momentum is what gave me the clarity and courage to begin writing my book. It’s the story of my family’s multigenerational trauma and how those patterns shaped me, my family and my life. But it’s more than a story—it’s also a guide filled with tools, strategies, and practical exercises to help readers identify, understand and even release their own limiting beliefs, negative habits and their ‘old story’. The book was born out of a decision to act and now my next step is to bring it into the world so others can break free and live more joyful, aligned, peaceful, and freedom-filled lives.

If I had chosen inaction—if I had stayed only in dentistry, ignored my deeper calling or left my book as “just an idea”—none of this would exist. And I wouldn’t be here, sharing this message with you.

 

Why the Mind Resists Action

If action is so powerful, why don’t we always choose it? Because the human mind craves safety and familiarity. Even when the “familiar” isn’t serving us, the subconscious will resist change, whispering that it’s safer to stay where you are……….in your comfort zone.
