What is a Mindset Coach? Is One Right for You?
It’s the beginning of the year and for me, renewal is a key word. I’m redoing and renewing my website. I’m renewing my intentions and goals for the coming year…….and the next few. I’m reviewing and renewing my relationships, my work, what I want and really enjoy doing and what I don’t.
The Covid pandemic has actually been helpful in this regard. Through our often-forced isolation, we have been made to look inward.
A meaning of renewal that I like is: the action of extending the period of validity of a contract, subscription. or even vows.
To put it simply, I am renewing my ‘vows’ or promise to my clients, audience, subscribers, to keep doing the best I can in my loved work as a Life & Mindset Coach. I’ll keep learning and growing myself, so that I can support others to keep learning, growing and moving forward in their lives, personally and professionally. I’ll be by their side when they’re challenged and need momentum, encouragement and support on their journey.
These days, most people have heard of life coaching and how it can help…….. in a variety of ways.
But when I say I’m a Life & Mindset Coach, folks sometimes look at me as though there’s a question mark on their faces. Mindset coaching?? So, here it is………….
What is a MINDSET COACH? Is one right for you?
Mindset coaches are dedicated to helping people rewire their mindset, which allows them to change their unhelpful and negative thought and belief patterns and to replace them with more helpful and positive ones.
This change in thinking allows for changing of behavior, actions and ultimately, your life and destiny.
This ‘work’ allows you to be the best version of yourself and you learn how to unlock your full potential.
LIFE Coach & MINDSET Coach:
A LIFE coach is a type of wellness professional who helps people make progress in their lives in order to attain greater fulfillment and reach more of their potential. They can help their clients in their day-to-day lives, with their careers, improving their relationships and improving the relationship with themselves: increased self-confidence, self-acceptance, self-esteem, self-care and even, self-love.
I believe that each individual is born perfect and whole and has, inside of them, unique skills, qualities and gifts. Your coach helps you to rediscover these and make them work for you and your life, while being aligned with who you authentically are, why you’re here (purpose) and what you’re meant to do. You were born to be the true you, not the one who was taught and who absorbed all the rules and behaviors of family, community and society, as a young child (from 0-7 years).
When you work with a Life Coach, you can find the desires, dreams and goals that align with the real you.
No matter what kind of coaching one does, the idea really is to get people from where they are now to where they want to be. It’s about working with people to set and achieve their goals and intentions by:
-helping them to get clear about what they really want, in one or many aspects of their lives.
-doing deep listening so there can be reviewing of where they are not or what they’ve tried so far. This can be in their personal life, their profession, their relationships and more.
-coming up with and discussing options for action because without action, our learning or knowledge doesn’t go forward (it just stays a dream or fantasy).
-developing and agreeing to an Action plan(s) to make these things happen; one small step at a time, chunking down bigger actions into smaller, more easily doable ones.
A MINDSET coach differs in that she works with her clients to uncover the beliefs, blocks, behaviors, actions, and patterns of thinking that are holding them back and preventing them from living the life or creating the career (or business) they really desire.
The mindset coach helps you to rewire your neural pathways (circuits) which allows a reprogramming of your thought patterns to help you get rid of those blocks and replace them with thoughts and beliefs that better serve you.
So, working with a MINDSET COACH gets you on a path to more aligned and faster results and to greater transformation and lasting success.
As a Mindset coach, I have studied neuroscience, epigenetics, psychology (ie: conscious/subconscious mind; left/right brain), hypnosis, the Art & Science of the Mind/Body/Brain and more. With these tools, I gain more insight and understanding of my clients and how they show up in their world. I use exercises, tools and techniques that are designed to teach my clients how to shift their perception, their mindset (growth vs. fixed) and their mind, so that their life changes for the better.
BOTTOM LINE: Mindset coaching clients often have a misalignment between what they want at the conscious level and the unconscious patterns, beliefs, behaviors, habits and programs that are running in the background…and are, pretty much, leading and guiding their lives, like it or not.
On the conscious awareness or surface level, they’re saying “I want……(this or that).” But underneath, their unconscious mind is doing everything it can to prevent…….(whatever this or that is) from happening.
Why? Because the primary goal of the unconscious mind is to keep us safe (survival) and this means familiarity or keeping things the same (status quo). To grow and change though, we must stretch ourselves out of our comfort zones (away from the status quo) and though this is necessary for a better and more fulfilling life, your unconscious mind goes on survivor alert.
Typically, a person will come to me because they’re feeling: “there’s got to be more to life than this…” or “I’ve tried everything (in my personal life, career, relationships, etc.) to make it a success, but nothing’s working” or maybe, “there’s something holding me back and I’m not sure what it is… .“ They may feel overwhelmed with too many choices or be stuck, not quite knowing how to get started….and more.
Basically, a MINDSET coach will help you to recognize, question and revise repetitive patterns of thought that limit you and to unlock the traps in your mind, the unconscious (and sometimes conscious) patterns and will partner with you to shift and remove them. They are then replaced with new beliefs, thoughts, behaviors, emotions that help you to move forward, achieve your goals more quickly and easily, so that you’re in alignment with the authentic you and living your best life, while utilizing your full potential.
Sometimes, a coach is needed, sometimes a therapist, sometimes a somatic practitioner or others or a combination. Therapy and coaching are different. We’ll discuss this more next week.
I’ve always been fascinated and curious about people, how they think and perceive life and also how the mind, brain and body function and are connected. We are lucky to be able to avail ourselves of the new knowledge in neuroscience, epigenetics and more. I’m honored and so happy to be able to help others as a Life & Mindset coach, hypnotherapist and previously, as a dentist. It is one of my greatest passions and missions; to help others to live with healthier and more helpful thoughts, which affect the rest of their lives and lifestyles.
