Creativity in the Time of Covid................and other Crises
Doing something creative gives you an immediate boost of positivity. This is what research tells us and what those of you who practice your own forms of creativity, know from experience. And you don’t have to be a painter, writer or artisan to be creative. Creativity can be as simple as breaking out of your routine, out of expected patterns, so that you can look at things in a different way.
It is January, 2021 and the whole world has been living with the Covid-19 virus, for almost one year now and the challenges that come from this pandemic: increasing unemployment, economic hardships and increased mental, emotional and physical challenges. Added to this are the recent events of Jan 6, 2021 and the nationwide awareness of the dangers of insurrection and ultra-nationalist (and white supremacist) leanings and beliefs.
Through all this, you can find healthy ways to release your anger, fear, frustration, sadness and real disappointment with the country’s and the world’s state of affairs, as well as your own.
You may want to increase your creativity with movement, exercise, even just ‘dancing to the music’ at home or maybe, writing about your present thoughts and feelings (pen to paper is preferable), either in a journal or in birthing that book you’ve always wanted to write. Many folks have become better at cooking and baking. Just look at the astronomical rise in banana-bread baking in the US during this Covid pandemic.
Personally, I have used some of this time to learn more and continue experimenting with drawing and painting and to learn the business of my mindset life coaching and hypnosis work. You can be creative in business, in the arts, in the relationships with your family and friends….in so many different ways.
There is no limit to creativity! There is only your unlimited potential. It can never be all used up or thrown away. The more creative you are, in your work and in your life, the more creative you become.
In this time of lockdowns and physical limitations, having something that grows and expands, either yourself or in the world, is a gift. And it’s fun!
Albert Einstein said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” And he sure knew something about intelligence. Even in his scientific endeavors and discoveries, he used his very active imagination to create new ideas, concepts and paths. He also said, “I never made one of my discoveries through the process of rational thinking.”
You don’t have to be brilliant or special. Creativity often comes out of ordinary moments. It can mean experimenting, growing, inventing, breaking old rules and patterns and forming new ones, making mistakes and having fun, not to mention letting your soul fly!
When you are being creative, you’re focused and located in the present moment, where all joy, peace, happiness and new, innovative ideas happen.
You are talented!
You ARE creative!
“Everybody is talented because everybody who is human has something to express.” ----Brenda Ueland
This time of Covid, crises and challenges, hard as it may be, also gives us the opportunity for expression, imagination and creativity, of any and all kinds. Never waste a crisis. Every crisis can become a transformation.
Get going, get creative and have some fun in the process!
