Smoking is an addiction and just like any other addiction, it works on the subconscious level. It is on the conscious level though that you desire to be a nonsmoker.

The subconscious part of your mind stores all your beliefs, habits, and life experiences and is stronger than the conscious part of your mind, with its thoughts, ideas, analysis and everyday concerns.

It is helpful and important to connect these parts of the mind and hypnosis helps to do this.
